Premier League champions Manchester City have reportedly been told they must make a decision on the future of Ederson and a bid for the goalkeeper within 48 hours.

With Manchester City’s pre-season schedule set to get underway from Monday 15 July, Pep Guardiola and his coaching staff are seemingly no closer to understanding who will be the club’s first-choice goalkeeper come the start of the competitive season.

Whilst Ederson has reportedly been considering the idea of a Manchester City exit for the Saudi Arabia millions since the end of last season, Etihad chiefs have been working to prepare themselves for the possibility of an exit for the Brazilian.

Stefan Ortega Moreno committed his long-term future to the Etihad Stadium in recent weeks by extending his contractual agreement through to the summer of 2026, whilst Scott Carson also penned a one-year extension until the end of the 2024/25 campaign.

But the waiting over a decision on Ederson’s future among Manchester City fans may finally be coming to an end, with a new report claiming of a deadline having been issued upon Etihad Stadium decision makers by negotiators at one Saudi Pro League side.

That is according to the information of TEAMtalk’s Rudy Galetti, who claims that Ederson has already ‘given the green light to’ a four-year deal with Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr, and a salary package worth around €12.5 million per year, or just over £200,000 per week.

While it is suggested that the Brazilian is now ‘pushing for the move’ to Saudi Arabia, Manchester City are standing firm on the fact that they do not want to lose the 30-year-old for a cut-price fee in the coming weeks.

However, Al-Nassr have now reportedly given City a ’48-hour deadline’ to accept an offer in the region of €25 million to €30 million, which will be paid in instalments. Should the Middle-East club fail in their pursuit, attentions will turn to their “first choice target” of Liverpool’s Alisson.

At present, it remains unknown as to what stance Manchester City will take in regards to replacing the presence of Ederson in their first-team squad, and whether to enter the market for a new number one mainstay or back-up.

Should Pep Guardiola be told that Stefan Ortega should be his new main goalkeeper by staff, then the Catalan coach is likely to be content following the German’s impressive showings for Manchester City throughout the course of last season.

After a number of accidental injuries sustained by Ederson throughout the campaign, Ortega was called upon in big matches including away trips to Real Madrid and Liverpool in the Champions League and Premier League respectively, coming out largely faultless.
