According to Kerry Hau of Sky Sports in Germany (via iMiaSanMia), Manchester City is keeping a close eye on Kimmich's contract situation at Bayern. The Premier League champions want to strengthen their midfield in the summer. With Pep Guardiola signing a new deal, a move to Manchester City can be an attractive proposition for Kimmich. The Spanish coach remains in contact with the German midfielder.

Manchester City have been linked with Kimmich consistently since Guardiola joined the club in 2016. However, Bayern have been successful in keeping hold of the German midfielder over the last eight seasons.

Bayern remain confident about keeping Kimmich

The record Bundesliga champions have held positive talks with Kimmich. There was a tense situation between Kimmich and the club’s relationship during last season. The German midfielder bemoaned the lack of support from Die Roten. There were strong suggestions in the German media that Bayern were ready to sell Kimmich in the summer. Paris Saint-Germain enquired about Kimmich in the last two transfer windows.

Kimmich eventually decided to stay at Bayern and opened the door for contract renewal. The Bavarian club has mended relationship with the German international, which suggests a contract renewal is a formality. Kimmich and Bayern need to financial agreement over a new deal.

Unless Manchester City come up with a significant deal to turn Kimmich’s head, he is likely to stay in Munich beyond the ongoing season. Die Roten would ideally like to sort a deal with Kimmich before the start of the winter transfer window. The 29-year-old midfielder can talk to interested clubs in January regarding a potential free transfer in the summer.

Manchester City also have interest in Jamal Musiala. However, the 21-year-old attacking midfielder is inching closer to signing a new deal at Bayern. Musiala feels settled in Munich and has hinted at signing a new contract. The record Bundesliga champions are ready to break the bank to secure the future of Musiala. They see him as the face of the club for the next decade.
