Officials at Manchester City are pushing for a deal for Eintracht Frankfurt’s Omar Marmoush this month, according to new reports from England.
The Premier League champions are aiming for a second-half comeback in their season after a torrid run of form that at one stage saw them win just one game in 13 matches across all competitions.
Much of the problems have been credited to widespread injury and fitness concerns in various positions within Pep Guardiola’s squad, whereas others either within the club or supporting the side have pointed towards the ageing legs in the first-team roster.
Manchester City notably failed to replace Julian Alvarez in the last summer transfer window when the Argentina international left the club for Atletico Madrid in a deal that would reach €90 million via various add-ons in the agreement.
And as such, there is a feeling that officials will look to bring in a new attacking name in 2025, and the latest report points towards that being the intention in the remaining weeks of this month looking ahead to the rest of the season.
According to the information of The Telegraph’s Sam Wallace, Manchester City are now pushing for a January deal for Egypt international forward Omar Marmoush, who will cost the club around £50 million.
It is detailed that the 25-year-old is currently contracted at Eintracht Frankfurt for two further seasons after the ongoing campaign, and the original intention from the side of the Bundesliga club was for a sale in the upcoming summer market.
However, it is explained that Manchester City feel that the versatile Egyptian forward can hit the ground running in the Premier League through his pace and ability to play a number of attacking positions.
Manchester City’s attacking options took a major hit before the season had even begun after highly-rated Academy graduate Oscar Bobb sustained a freak leg bone injury in a training session last August.
Undergoing surgery on the break, Bobb was subsequently ruled out until early 2025 and Pep Guardiola’s intentions to utilise the Norway international frequently across his forward line were shattered.
It remains to be seen just how the signing of Marmoush could disrupt the current attacking options at Manchester City, with the future of Jack Grealish already thrown into doubt amid the continued rise in performances of Savinho over recent weeks.
