A new kit designed by three first-team Manchester City players will be released and used on the pitch during the ongoing 2024/25 season, it has been confirmed.

The latest imminent design follows the release of four popular editions worn by Manchester City’s outfield players this season, including the club’s first-ever fourth kit inspired by Oasis’ ‘Definitely Maybe’ album.

The newest release of the club’s home shirt brought inspiration from the Greater Manchester 0161 area code, whilst the away kit brought a feeling of nostalgia with its design inspired by the club’s iconic 1999 play-off final shirt.

Maroon and gold was brought back for the third kit this season in a colour combination that has been utilised various times in the club’s recent history, and recent reports have indicated that there could be two further releases to be used at the summer’s FIFA Club World Cup.

But before then, Manchester City’s goalkeeping ranks may be treated to a club-first, by becoming the first players in the club’s history to wear a shirt designed using Artificial Intelligence.

As confirmed by Footy Headlines, a trio of Ederson, Stefan Ortega Moreno, and Rico Lewis have designed a brand new bespoke goalkeeper kit using the PUMA AI Creator to be used on-pitch later this season.

The 2024/25 Manchester City AI-created goalkeeper kit is said to be inspired by a football net, showcasing a green base with a net pattern across the front of it, with all logos utilising a bright yellow colour.

Manchester City claim that the shirt will be the first-ever AI-manufactured football kit to be worn on-pitch, however Footy Headlines point out that Al-Ittihad’s 2024/25 third kit was designed with the help of AI, as well as Red Star FC’s kit from the 2023/24 season.

The AI-designed Puma and Manchester City 2024/25 goalkeeper kit will also be available to purchase by Etihad Stadium supporters, but with the shirt produced in limited quantities only.

Manchester City announced in early December that PUMA, in collaboration with the club, had launched an AI kit design platform, giving fans a unique opportunity to design the official Third kit for the 2026/27 season.

Fans were granted access to a platform featuring text prompting, customisation tools and intuitive sliders, channeling their “passion and originality to create bold patterns and unique kit designs”.

The reigning Premier League champions also confirmed in the process that the winning AI design would be worn by Pep Guardiola’s stars on-pitch and sold to fans across the globe, in what they claimed would be a first for a professional football club.
