Manchester City are ruthless as always in the summer window and have already struck a high-profile deal for Erling Haaland to bolster them high up the pitch. Meanwhile, they have made significant money by shipping their academy prospects and if a report from The Athletic’s David Ornstein is believed to be true, Burnley are now working on a deal to sign goalkeeper Arijanet Muric after roping in centre-back CJ Egan-Riley.
The Citizens have also announced the signing of Stefan Ortega as the new ‘number 2’ behind Ederson. Zack Steffen, the understudy to the Brazilian for the past couple of seasons, is set to join Middlesbrough on loan for regular minutes and Muric, with no future at the Etihad, is expected to part ways on permanent terms.
Vincent Kompany, a City legend and the new Burnley boss, is making the most of his contacts and influence to tie down the Skyblues’ prospects. Adana Demirspor are keen as well to snap up the 23-year-old custodian after an impressive loan stint last season, but the Clarets are leading the race for obvious reasons.
The highly-rated Kosovo international joined the youth ranks of Man City from Grasshopper. Although his maiden professional appearance was for NAC Breda while on loan, Muric was recalled only four days after his senior debut following an injury to the then ‘number 2’ Claudio Bravo. He featured extensively in the League Cup which they went on to win in 2019 defeating Chelsea in the tie-breaker. The youngster remained as the unused substitute in the Wembley final.

His next two loan spells were unsuccessful as he hardly featured for Nottingham Forest and Girona. The 6 ft 6 in shot-stopper revived his game at Willem II and Adana Demirspor, but he does not belong to Pep Guardiola’s plans anymore.
Manchester City have also sanctioned the transfer of Gavin Bazunu who has joined Southampton for an astronomical £12m fee. The 20-year-old Irishman is already a regular for his nation between the sticks and the Skyblues, who bought him for a minuscule £420,000 from Shamrock Rovers, have now made a massive profit without handing him a single first-team minute. His two seasons in League One with Rochdale and Portsmouth have been enough to impress the Saints’ scouts.
However, veteran Scott Carson has signed a one-year extension to continue as the third-choice keeper. The 36-year-old Englishman has earned a cult status among the fans and as things stand, the Citizens have done tremendous business to find balance in the last line of defence.
