Manchester City take on Nottingham Forest at the City Ground today in a crucial Premier League fixture. Both teams have ambitions of securing Champions League football for next season. Today’s match is crucial for both sides. If Pep Guardiola’s side picks up all three points, they will leapfrog Forest into third on the Premier League table. But if Forest wins, they will buy themselves some breathing space in third place. It’s a crucial game for both teams based on what is at stake today. Here is the latest City injury news and my predicted City starting eleven for today’s fixture.
Manchester City will enter today’s match without four key players. John Stones, Manuel Akanji, Rodri and Nathan Ake are all out of today’s match. Pep Guardiola confirmed yesterday that Ake is set to be out for 10-11 weeks after the Dutch international had surgery on a troublesome foot injury.
Today could also see Oscar Bobb return to the Manchester City matchday squad for the first time this season. The Norwegian international has been out since he fractured his leg on the eve of this season. Bobb suffered a setback during his initial comeback from the injury. He has trained over the past week so he could return to the bench for today’s match.
Ederson: I expect Ederson to start in goal for Pep Guardiola’s side today.
Rico Lewis: It is a toss-up between Rico Lewis and Matheus Nunes for the right-back role for today’s match. I expect Lewis to get the nod as Manchester City look to control today’s match.
Ruben Dias: An automatic selection for today’s match. His leadership could be vital for Pep Guardiola’s side today.
Abdukodir Khusanov: Khusanov has impressed since arriving at the club and his strengths do appear to be ideally suited to playing against Chris Wood at the City Ground.
Josko Gvardiol: Another automatic selection and there doesn’t appear to be any reason as to why Gvardiol won’t start today.
Nico: The Spanish midfielder will be an important player in today’s match. If he starts, which I expect him to, he will be tasked with controlling the midfield battle. If he does it could set City on their way.
Mateo Kovacic: You could pick any one of four players here, but I expect Kovacic to partner Nico in midfield.
Phil Foden: If Foden fires he could set Manchester City on their way today. I expect him to start today’s match and he’ll have a vital role to play.
Savinho: The Brazilian international should line up on the right wing today. I’d be surprised if he doesn’t.
Omar Marmoush: Another position where I could see Jeremy Doku start but I’ll give the nod to Marmoush. His runs in behind the Forest defence could be a crucial factor in today’s match. That’s why I expect him to start over Doku.
Erling Haaland: Another automatic selection for today’s match. If Haaland can occupy the Forest defence his teammates could prosper and so could he.
