Manchester City welcome neighbouring Salford City to the Etihad in the third round of the FA Cup this weekend.
It’s the first-ever meeting between two teams separated by less than five miles, with Salford – part-owned by Manchester United legends including Gary Neville, Paul Scholes and Nicky Butt – having reached this stage for the first time.
Manchester City are aiming to reach a third successive FA Cup final, having lost last season’s decider to Manchester United. Pep Guardiola’s team have bounced back from a torrid run with successive victories, beating Leicester and West Ham in an upturn in results.
The visitors will start the contest as huge underdogs but arrive in confident mood. Salford have won six successive games in League Two without conceding a goal.
Pep Guardiola has confirmed that neither Ruben Dias or Oscar Bobb are ready to return for Manchester City despite resuming training with the first-team squad.
Speaking in his pre-match press conference on Friday, Guardiola said the duo will not make this weekend’s tie.
“Not yet. He feels better but not ready. I don’t know when,” he began on Dias.
On Bobb, he added: “[He is] training with the team partially. That’s good news for us. It was a fractured bone. Now that is healed, he’s fine but good news is he’s back.”
John Stones is also ruled out, though Ederson is available for selection.
Manchester City predicted XI: Ortega; Walker, Simpson-Pusey, Ake; Gundogan, O’Reilly; Doku, Nunes, McAtee, Grealish; Mubama.
Manchester City host Salford in the third round of the FA Cup on Saturday 11th January 2025. Kick-off at the Etihad is 5:45pm GMT.
Manchester City vs Salford will be available to watch on BBC One, BBC iPlayer and BBC Sport Online.
