Manchester United strengthened their midfield with the addition of Manuel Ugarte during the summer window but more changes are in store ahead of next season.

Despite a brace against Barnsley in the team’s Carabao Cup triumph, Christian Eriksen is all set to leave at the end of his contract next summer with Ajax mooted as his next destination.

His midfield partner on the night, Casemiro is also slated to leave as early as January after yet another difficult start to the campaign with the player alleging he has been unfairly targeted by sections of the media.

The Peoples Person has relayed that the club are planning to add another midfielder to the engine room with F365 adding a surprise name into the equation.

Gavi being eyed

Barcelona wonderkid Gavi, who missed over a year of action due to an ACL injury, is inching closer to a first team return but might find his path blocked with new manager Hansi Flick having a different idea with regards to tactics.

And the La Masia graduate is prepared to fight for his place but if his minutes go down dramatically, he might seek a move away with four clubs in the fray to sign him.

United are one of them who “do not forget about the winner of the Golden Boy and the Kopa Trophy in 2022”. Premier League rivals Chelsea are also keeping tabs.

Paris Saint-Germain under the instructions of manager Luis Enrique, who managed him at national level, are also in the race, as are Bayern Munich.

Barca open to sale

The Spaniard is valued at €90 million by by Transfermarkt and has a £1 billion release clause inserted into his contract but at the moment, his future is generating the “most uncertainty” at Camp Nou.

As seen from previous examples with Ansu Fati and Samuel Umtiti, it often becomes difficult for a player to regain the same form and physicality post a major injury.

The Catalan giants are well stocked in the middle of the park with Fermín López, Dani Olmo, Pedri González and Marc Casadó with Frenkie de Jong also slated to return soon.

A “major bid” could make Joan Laporta and Deco move Gavi on and United could be the ones to benefit. However, due medical diligence needs to be carried out so as not to bring in an injury-prone player, as has often been the case in the past.

His current contract is valid until 2026 and if he cannot establish himself this season, a cut-price exit could be on the cards next summer. But for now, this report needs to be taken with a hefty pinch of salt.
