Manchester United’s interest in Geovany Quenda is heating up, with a report suggesting they have “set aside” money for the Sporting CP sensation.

Amorim earned plenty of plaudits for not only implementing an exciting style of play in Lisbon but also improving individual player performance.

Quenda is one of the Sporting talents who enjoyed an astronomical rise under Amorim. He developed as a right winger in the club’s youth setup, but the ex-Sporting manager gave him his breakthrough as a right wing-back.

With his pace, dribbling, and positional awareness, the 17-year-old impressed so much in that role that Sporting handed him a new contract earlier this term, increasing his release clause from €45m to €100m.

Despite an increase in his valuation, the Portuguese youngster continues to attract interest from United, who are understood to be working on securing his signature.

According to A Bola (via Sport Witness), the player’s agent, Jorge Mendes, has been involved in the operation and has already held talks with the Mancunian giants.

It is added that the Red Devils have €60m, excluding bonuses, ready to secure the services of Quenda as they are “committed to signing” the teenager.

The newspaper states that Sporting won’t be able to ignore the aforementioned figure plus bonuses from United, who supposedly intend to “get ahead of the competition” to agree a deal for the Portugal U21 international for a summer move.

Liverpool have also been linked with Quenda, but United’s eagerness to get the deal done and Amorim’s presence at Old Trafford may give them an edge over the Merseyside outfit.

In his first two games in charge of United, Amorim has put Amad Diallo and Antony on the right flank instead of a traditional full-back, underlining his desire to have a creative presence in that area of the pitch.

In that regard, Quenda, who has two goals and two assists to his name this season, has the potential to be a huge upgrade on existing options at Amorim’s disposal.

Despite interest in the Sporting star, the United board highly rates Amad, who is expected to be rewarded with a new contract.
