Manchester United are supposedly prepared to play the waiting game for Manuel Ugarte right up until the transfer deadline.

It has been more than a month since United convinced Ugarte to join Erik ten Hag’s project, having reportedly reached an agreement over personal terms with the Uruguayan midfielder.

As Casemiro’s role under Ten Hag has suggested during pre-season as well as in the side’s Premier League opener, the Dutch tactician is looking for a midfielder capable of running up and down the pitch rather than holding his position ahead of the backline.

In that regard, Ugarte certainly fits the ball. He has impressed with his tenacious style and ability to cover ground at both Sporting Lisbon and PSG. However, he is not the type of midfielder that Spanish coach Luis Enrique is looking for in his possession-based setup.

Regardless, Paris Saint-Germain have so far maintained a tough stance, refusing to sell the 23-year-old until their £51m valuation is met.

A report from The Guardian suggests United are in a position to finance the deal for Ugarte, who is wanted by Ten Hag, without having to make more sales.

However, the club’s hierarchy are not very keen on meeting PSG’s demand which is “deemed too high”. Both Ten Hag and sporting director Dan Ashworth are thought to be on board with the approach.

Instead, the Red Devils hope to force the Ligue 1 giants into lowering their asking price by waiting until the transfer deadline day to get their hands on Ugarte.

It is clear the Uruguay international is not part of Enrique’s plans. He was not even included in his matchday squad for the Ligue 1 opener against Le Havre last Friday.

Accordingly, there is “belief” that PSG may eventually reduce their asking price before the close of the transfer window.

United are also reportedly considering other options at the same time for their midfield.

Recently, The Peoples Person relayed a report claiming the Old Trafford outfit have made a first bid, albeit unsuccessful, for Burnley star Sander Berge.
