Manchester United have opened talks with Paris Saint-Germain for the signing of Manuel Ugarte, but he is not the only midfielder being linked with the club.

Sofyan Amrabat is expected to return to Fiorentina upon the expiration of his loan deal at Old Trafford. Meanwhile, United are hoping to sell Casemiro, who struggled in the Premier League last season due to his physical decline.

Accordingly, the Red Devils are expected to explore the transfer market for more than one midfielder. In that regard, Archie Gray has emerged as a surprise candidate to strengthen Erik ten Hag’s midfield.

Recently, The Peoples Person relayed a report claiming United are the latest big-name club “to come calling for” the Leeds United sensation and their “interest has been registered.”

Last season, the 18-year-old enjoyed a promising breakthrough campaign at Leeds, making an impressive 43 starts in the Championship.

Gray, who is a brilliant ball carrier with versatility to thrive in multiple midfield areas, has all the tools to improve United’s midfield. But late on Saturday, it emerged that Brentford had won the race for his signature.

It was reported that Leeds star is ready to undergo a medical at Brentford ahead of a move worth around £35 million.

However, it appears the race for Gray is still open. Earlier today, multiple reports claimed that Leeds have turned down the London outfit’s offer for their midfielder.

With a full agreement yet to be struck with any club, United remain in the race and have the opportunity to make a late move if their interest is indeed serious.

That being said, convincing Gray to move to Old Trafford from Elland Road is going to be tricky as Gray is a boyhood Leeds fan, who has been at the club since he was seven.

Further, Tottenham Hotspur appear to have taken the lead for his signature. According to Fabrizio Romano, the North London outfit have already contacted Leeds for Gray.

As far as United’s search for a midfielder is concerned, their bid for Ugarte has allegedly already been turned down by PSG, who are open to selling the Uruguayan for the right price.
