Things are heating up for Manchester United in the summer window and it looks like INEOS are planning a massive revamp of the backline considering what transpired last term.

The club are still locked in talks with Bayern Munich over Matthijs de Ligt while Leny Yoro of Lille will have to choose between Real Madrid and the Red Devils as his next destination.

The Jarrad Branthwaite saga does not seem like it will end anytime soon and for the club to acquire all three centre-backs or at least more than one, sales will be required to fund any subsequent bid.

Already, Raphael Varane has announced his departure while academy graduate Willy Kambwala looks to be on his way to Spanish outfit Villareal.

Backline revamp

And now as per The Manchester Evening News, United are “trying hard” to move on Victor Lindelof with the Swede’s current deal expiring next summer after the club triggered the one-year extension option.

The 20-time English league champions have no intention of offering the 29-year-old a new deal and this window is the only realistic chance for the club to recoup a fee from the defender’s sale.

His sale is expected to help finance other deals as per the report. The Sweden international’s current market value stands at €15 million and the Old Trafford side would do well to earn as much.

United are expected to sustain a heavy loss on their initial investment of €35 million back in 2017.

“Manchester United are stepping up their efforts to sell Victor Lindelof this summer. A source said United are “trying hard” to sell the Sweden captain.

Lindelof to be sold

“Lindelof, who turns 30 next week, is out of contract next year and this is the last transfer window United can realistically sell the centre back.”

Last season, Lindelof made 28 appearances, his lowest since signing for the club seven seasons ago. Injuries have begun to trouble him and moving him on this summer makes a lot of sense.

His long-term partner at the back, Harry Maguire has also been linked with an exit and by the time the new season kicks off, United’s back-four could have a completely new look about it.

One centre-back who will be staying is Jonny Evans after it was announced that the veteran had signed a one-year extension. However, he is unlikely to be used as much this term.
