Manchester United will entertain Red Bull Leipzig at Old Trafford on Wednesday night with both teams expected to go all out for the three points. The Red Devils managed to earn an impressive 2-1 victory over Paris-Saint Germain in the opening week of this UEFA Champions League campaign. Similarly, the German outfit also secured all three points last week when they comfortably got the better of Istanbul Basaksehir by a 2-0 scoreline.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will probably go with a 3-4-1-2 formation and is expected to name Paul Pogba and Anthony Martial in his first-team later this week. The Norwegian manager will instruct his players to sit back and defend deep so that they can exploit some of the opposition’s weaknesses on the counter.
Julian Nagelsmann will set his team up in a 4-3-3 formation as his players look to dominate the ball and cause a lot of problems for the Man United defenders in midweek. Kevin Kampl, Dani Olmo and Marcel Sabitzer will all have to work hard in midfield if the visitors are to have any chance of earning a win on the road.
Phil Jones, Eric Bailly and Jesse Lingard will be sidelined due to injury. Otherwise, Solskjaer has no other new injury worries to cope with heading into this midweek cup clash at the Theatre of Dreams.
David de Gea, Axel Tuanzebe, Victor Lindelof, Harry Maguire, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Fred, Paul Pogba, Bruno Fernandes, Alex Telles, Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial
Tyler Adams, Marcel Halstenberg, Lukas Klostermann, Konrad Laimer, Fabrice Hartmann will all miss out because of injury. Nordi Mukiele is also a major concern for Leipzig ahead of this contest at Manchester.
Peter Gulacsi, Benjamin Henrichs, Ibrahima Konate, Dayot Upamecano, Angelino, Kevin Kampl, Dani Olmo, Marcel Sabitzer, Christopher Nkunku, Yussuf Poulsen, Hwang Hee-chan
Both Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford could once again be the difference makers in this European encounter after their impressive run of form so far this season. The defensive performance of Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof could very well end up determining the fate of this contest versus Julian Nagelsmann’s men.
A lot of eyes will be on Dayot Upamecano who has been a real revelation for the German giants over the past 18 months. Hwang Hee-chan will also have to figure out a way to cause some headaches for the Man United defenders during the 90 minutes.
The Red Devils are 6/5 favourites to emerge victorious on Wednesday night. The draw has been listed at 5/2 while Red Bull Leipzig are 5/2 underdogs to come away with maximum points from Old Trafford.
