Marc Skinner’s side are up against arch-rivals Liverpool, newly promoted Newcastle United and Everton for the first stage of this year’s competition.

United were in the same group as the two Merseyside clubs in last years competition, winning both encounters.

They also tasted victory against Newcastle in the historic FA Cup run which ended in triumph against Tottenham at Wembley, in May.

The Northern side of the draw has been split into two pots of four with the Southern side being made up of three groups of four.

Super League Champions Chelsea have been granted a bye to the quarter-final stage due to their participation in the Women’s Champions League.

Manchester City and Arsenal also have the opportunity to enter the competition at a later stage but must qualify for the premier European tournament first.

Should either Arsenal or City exit the UWCL in either rounds 1 or 2, then they will enter the League Cup at the group stage (playing their first match on 16/17 October) which could affect United’s schedule.

A draw would take place to determine which group (A or B) Manchester City and (C,D or E) Arsenal would join.

United’s Group Stage schedule and permutations should Arsenal and/or City enter is as follows:

MD1 – 2/3 October 2024 MD2 – 16/17 October 2024 & 13/14 November 2024 (only required if either Arsenal or City enter the group stage) MD3 – 23/24 November 2024 MD4 – 11/12 December 2024

The Knockout Stages will take place in the New Year with the quarter-finals being held on either 22/23 January.

The semi-finals take place over the days of 5/6 February 2025, with the final scheduled for the weekend of February 15.

After tasting cup silverware in the last campaign, Skinner will be desperate to add the League Cup to his list of honours and will expect his side to feature in the knockout rounds at the very least.
