Another potentially big injury is forcing Ruben Amorim into a rethink

Matthijs de Ligt is considered a serious doubt after being forced off during the first half against Brentford at the weekend. The centre-back has endured a tough time of late with injuries, having made his return off the bench in the first leg against the Spanish side before starting against the Bees on Sunday.

Asked for an update after the match, Amorim said: "I don't know. We will see. I hope it's nothing serious ... I'm really concerned. Not about Thursday - we took off Luke Shaw at half-time to protect and have players for Thursday - but I'm more concerned whether it is a small or big injury and thinking about next season."

In De Ligt's expected absence, Victor Lindelof should come in and start alongside Harry Maguire and Leny Yoro. On the flanks, Shaw and Noussair Mazraoui are in line to start, while Patrick Dorgu is another option. Amad Diallo is pushing for a start after making two substitute appearances since returning for injury, and is another option at right wing-back.

Rasmus Hojlund will lead the line due to a lack of better alternatives, supported by Alejandro Garnacho and captain Bruno Fernandes.
