Though Bernardo Silva hit the net for Manchester City after just two minutes of their European quarter-final first leg against Real Madrid, Juventus and former striker Mario Mandzukic still hold the record for the earliest goal scored by the away team at the Santiago Bernabeu in the Champions League.
Real Madrid and Juventus met in the Champions League quarter-finals during the 2017-18 campaign, which the Spaniards ultimately won 4-3 on aggregate, despite a resilient display from the Bianconeri away in the second leg.
Juventus lost the home fixture 3-0, which included Cristiano Ronaldo’s famous bicycle kick, but went on to beat Madrid 3-1 in the Spanish capital, which, unfortunately, was not enough to qualify for the semis.
During the second leg, though, Mandzukic struck after just 77 seconds to become the fastest player to score away against Real Madrid in the history of the Champions League.
Bernardo Silva came close on Tuesday evening when he opened the scoring after 108 seconds for Manchester City, but Mandzukic’s record still lives to see another day.
