Manchester United have announced that women's team manager Marc Skinner has signed a new contract with the club until 2027.

Skinner took over from the club's first women's manager Casey Stoney in 2021 and has since given the side their first taste of women's football and their first FA Cup when they defeated Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley last year.

"It has been an absolute privilege to serve as head coach for this fantastic football club for the past four years, and I am delighted to be extending my time in the role for at least a further two years," the 42-year-old, whose contract was due to expire at the end of the season, said about his new deal.

"We are building a young, hungry team with the aim of challenging consistently for further trophies. There is still more hard work ahead, including this season, but the players and staff have already shown their determination to succeed, and I am looking forward to us taking the next steps in our journey together."

Despite United's improvement, especially considering high-profile departures last season, Skinner is not the most popular man among some sections of the club's support. However, earning Champions League football this season will help silence the doubters.

United are currently third in the WSL, level on points with Arsenal and seven points clear of Man City, but have a difficult end to the season that begins with an FA Cup semi-final with their cross-town rivals following the international break.
