Marcus Rashford is reportedly unlikely to leave Old Trafford this summer.

The future of the 2022/2023 Player of the Season has been one of the most discussed around Old Trafford over the course of the season.

The Englishman consistently put in disappointing performances, only scoring eight goals in all competitions in comparison to 30 the year before, and subsequently failed to make England’s Euro 2024 squad.

The forward’s perceived lack of effort on the pitch was called out by numerous pundits during the season and he has been linked to a move away from United, with sides such as Paris Saint-Germain and Saudi Arabian team Al Ittihad touted as possible destinations.

Football Insider provides an update on the situation however by reporting that their sources have told them that “Man United star Marcus Rashford is ‘unlikely’ to leave the club this summer”.

“Rashford remains determined to come back and prove his worth next term after a difficult season personally” and United would only consider letting the player go for a “huge” fee.

While United will reportedly look at any deal offered for the majority of their playing squad due to PSR restrictions, the Englishman only signed a new contract last year, so he is tied to the club until 2028 and reportedly earns a huge £375,000 a week.

Therefore, United would be unwilling to accept a reduced fee on the player and it is highly improbable that the 26 year would be interested in a pay cut, hence severely limiting his potential options.

The United academy product has already written in The Players’ Tribune earlier in the season that he loves the club and only wants to succeed at Old Trafford.

With the non-international players due to return to training next week, Rashford will get the chance to have a meeting with Erik ten Hag to clarify his future at the club.

Yesterday it was officially announced that the Red Devils finally got their sporting director Dan Ashworth and he will begin work immediately so his presence should also speed along a definitive decision on the forward’s future.

A recent survey in the Manchester Evening News suggested that 51% of fans wanted the forward sold but with so much changing around the club and new coaches Ruud van Nistelrooy and Rene Hake reportedly coming in to join Erik ten Hag’s coaching team, there will be hope that Rashford can find his form again.

Due to the player being an academy product and his fine form in the past, it is likely most match-going fans will support the 26 year old but it is clear that he needs to hit the ground running in this upcoming season or questions over his future will only persist.
