Enzo Maresca revealed midfielder Romeo Lavia was brought off at half-time of Chelsea’s win over Tottenham because of a hamstring problem but says it is nothing serious.
Lavia impressed during the first half but was brought off for Malo Gusto, who went on at right-back with Moises Caicedo then moving into midfield.
It was a change that worked well for Chelsea, who came from two goals down to beat Spurs 4-3 and move second in the Premier League table.
Asked about the change, Maresca told Sky Sports: “We had a problem with Romeo Lavia so Malo Gusto came on and we moves Moi (Caicedo) as a midfielder and we just changed a little bit the two attacking midfielders, which in the first half was Enzo and Cole, and second half we dropped Enzo a little bit next to Moi and Marc Cucurella was the other attacking midfielder.
“The change was good and we won.”
And asked about Lavia’s injury, he added: “He had a hamstring problem. He felt something, but now he’s okay.
“We don’t want to take any risks for players because, especially in December with so many games, sometimes it’s better to change and lose 45 minutes than lose five or six games.”
