Marinho has credited Flamengo manager Dorival Júnior for playing him in his preferred attacking position.
The 32-year-old striker netted the Rubro-Negro’s second in a 4-1 win over Atlético Goianiense at the Maracanã on Saturday.
It marked his second goal since Júnior replaced the sacked Paulo Sousa last month, compared to just the one he scored in the previous five months.
“I had an opportunity with Paulo Sousa but in a position I didn’t want to play,” Marinho told reporters afterwards.
“But I always put Flamengo and the team ahead of myself. It wasn’t lateral, but I would go in and try to do my best.
“Sometimes things didn’t happen, but Paulo Sousa always respected me, and I always respected him.
“The coach changed, the way of playing changed, Dorival gave confidence to me and the whole group. It has given results, and I hope we can grow.”
Victory over Atlético saw Fla record their fourth-straight league win, lifting them up to fourth in the Brasileirão table.
