Hull City are seemingly looking to conclude their search for a new manager quickly following the dismissal of Tim Walter, with ex-Fulham and Sheffield United boss Slavisa Jokanovic the latest name in contention.

The Tigers finally concluded Walter's short and disastrous reign by relieving him of his duties yesterday following meetings held earlier in the afternoon with Acun Ilicali and the Tigers' hierarchy after Tuesday evening's 2-0 home defeat to Sheffield Wednesday.

The former Hamburger SV boss arrived in East Yorkshire with an intriguing reputation developed during two-and-a-half seasons with the Bundesliga. 2 outfit, but ultimately failed to deliver upon the promise and expectation and left with Hull sat 22nd, with just three wins in the league overall.

The Sheffield United view of Slavisa Jokanovic links to Hull City

Jokanovic is poised to succeed Walter at the MKM Stadium, as per talkSPORT reporter Alex Crook. Jokanovic is currently the "leading contender" to succeed the German, having been out of a job for more than a year after leaving Dynamo Moscow in May 2023.

Having won promotion with both Watford and Fulham, Jokanovic could not repeat the same feat with the Blades. With that in mind, and following the news of Hull's significant interest in appointing Jokanovic, we asked FLW's Blades fan pundit, Jimmy from the Blades Ramble YouTube channel, for his thoughts.

He said: "That is a surprise to me. I have not heard about Slav being linked with Hull.

"I think they surely have to be looking at Mark Robins as a natural successor to Tim Walter. They will probably be kicking themselves over sacking Liam Rosenior, to be honest.

"But in terms of whether I think Slav could do a job? Look, when he came to Sheffield United, he had a certain way that he wanted to play.

"But, at that time, we were built throughout the club as a three-five-two team. All the recruitment had been done for that system. We had no full-backs or wingers and he wanted to play a four-at-the-back with wingers.

"It was just square pegs in round holes and didn't work. It was too harsh of a transition for Slav when he tried to play the way he prefers.

"It did not work for us, unfortunately. It does not make him a bad manager. He has clearly had success at this level before.

"Now, it is a little bit different; most teams, us included, are playing four and wide men again.

"If he goes into Hull, they have the players that suit his style of play. When you think about it, it's not too much of a surprise that he has been linked.

"But, as I say, surely Mark Robins is right there for them."

Hull City must select their next manager carefully

Jokanovic is not the only name in the mix, according to a recent report from The Sun's Alan Nixon, via his exclusive Patreon service. Hull intend on entering negotiations with Robins, who remains out of work following his own controversial dismissal from Championship rivals Coventry City earlier this month.

The issue with Jokanovic goes beyond how effective he can be as a short-term fit, but due to his lack of long-termist approach at various clubs. Despite having been in management since 2007, he's never lasted three or more full years at a single side.

Given how ambitious and intent Ilicali is on reaching the top-flight, Jokanovic does fit the bill in that regard, but the caveat is his success has never been sustained. His tenure at Sheffield United in 2021/22 was also a major disappointment, which cannot be overlooked.

Despite high expectations following their Premier League relegation, his tactics failed to click, leading to inconsistent performances and a lack of cohesion. Struggling to adapt to the Championship, Jokanovic's side lacked identity, resulting in poor results.

He was sacked in November 2021 with the Blades mid-table and replaced by Paul Heckingbottom. Hull must get this right, and is Jokanovic the answer in the short or long-term?
