According to L’Équipe, Olympique de Marseille have offered Leonardo Balerdi (25) a contract extension, amidst interest from La Liga giants Atletico Madrid.
After arriving from Borussia Dortmund, Balerdi has, over the course of his four years at the Vélodrome, established himself as a key player. Few players remain at Marseille for such a period of time with the club known to move players on after just two years. However, the Argentinian centre-back may depart this summer after what has been his most impressive season for Les Phocéens.
With a squad overhaul expected at Marseille this summer, Balerdi is one of the few players that the club are hoping to retain. As a result, OM have offered the Argentine a two-year contract extension, which would significantly increase his salary and tie him to the club until 2028.
However, OM are aware that in the event of a big club, such as Atletico Madrid, coming knocking, a departure may be inevitable.
