Olympique de Marseille have opened talks to sign Werder Bremen’s goalkeeper Michael Zetterer (29) as potential Pau Lopez’s (29) replacement, according to Sky.

With Ligue 1 set to kick off in three weeks, Marseille are pushing forward to find a new goalkeeper and target multiple profiles to choose the right successor to Pau Lopez (29), who has been set as a surplus to requirements by Roberto de Zerbi. After giving up on Filip Jorgensen, who ended up at Chelsea, Les Phocéens had set their sights on Feyenoord’s goalkeeper Timon Wellenreuther. However, the Dutch outfit is reportedly now considering making the former German U21 international the new club’s starter goalkeeper. Hence, Marseille have been forced to consider other profiles and have been seduced by Michael Zetterer, who is coming off a solid season at Werder Bremen.

According to Sky Germany, Zetterer’s profile has already been approved by Marseille’s new manager, Roberto de Zerbi. Despite having renewed his contract for three years in May, the 29-year-old goalkeeper could leave Werder Bremen this summer. The German outlet reports that Marseille have opened talks to sign Zetterer, while Bremen’s valuation for their star player, under contract until 2027, is yet to be known.
