Marseille goalkeeper Pau Lopez, spoke to RMC Sport about his side’s first half performance saying it was “the worst first half of the season” for the Olympians. It was a fair observation from Lopez, with midfielder Jordan Veretout also revealing the dressing room scenes at half-time which precipitated a comeback win for OM.

He felt that Toulouse was superior to Marseille during the first half, He emphasised the importance of taking every match seriously and that it is crucial for everyone to give 100% all the time.

Marseille managed to win the game thanks to a turnaround in the second half, but Lopez acknowledged that they needed to improve and that Toulouse had more desire than Marseille during the first half. They discussed this at halftime. “I felt Toulouse were superior to us in the first half and it’s the first time I’ve felt that this season.”

“We have to take every game seriously. It’s very important to have won but everyone has to be 100% all the time. We said things to each other at half-time because they had more desire than us.”

After shaking up his troops, Igor Tudor replaced Azzedine Ounahi with Ruslan Milanovskyi after the break and allowed his team to show a more ruthless and competitive side to their game. Cengiz Ünder and Nuno Tavares scored following Chancel Mbemba’s equaliser to steer themselves clear of Toulouse in the match.

“We had a few words at half-time to boost the lads and we all went back on the pitch together to change the course of the game and we did it well,” said delighted midfielder Jordan Veretout. The coach didn’t shout at us, he just found the right words. We knew that we had a bad first half and that if we continued like that, we would lose. It was up to us to change all that.”
