One of Ligue 1’s most active clubs on the transfer market so far, Olympique de Marseille have set the signing of a new goalkeeper their top priority. Les Phocéens have set their sights on Feyenoord’s goalkeeper Timon Wellenreuther (28), but the deal is getting more complicated, reveals L’Equipe.

Marseille’s quest for a new goalkeeper has been one of Roberto De Zerbi’s priorities since his appointment, despite solid performances from Pau Lopez (29) over the last three seasons. While the Spanish goalkeeper’s transfer to Como has collapsed, Les Phocéens remain on the market for a new keeper, and had even considered the signing of Wojciech Szczęsny (34) on a free transfer following Juventus exit, but are now targeting Wellenreuther, who came off an interesting season at Feyenoord despite his backup role.

According to a report by L’Equipe, Marseille could have to set their sights on another profile in their searches for a new goalkeeper. While Wellenreuther is tied to Feyenoord until 2027, the Dutch club is reportedly now considering setting the former German U21 international as its new starter goalkeeper. The 28-year-old goalkeeper was a starter in the second part of a season following Justin Biljow’s injury. Despite solid performances, claiming 11 clean-sheets in 19 games, Wellenreuther returned on the bench when his teammate came back from injury. However, a decision is yet to be taken on who will start next season. If Biljow remained as Feyenoord’s starter goalkeeper, the Dutch outfit would be open to selling Wellenreuther.
