With Roberto de Zerbi’s recent nomination as Olympique de Marseille’s new manager, Les Phocéens are set for a squad overhaul this summer, with numerous signings having already been sealed. According to RMC Sport, the Southern side is looking to offload players that aren’t in the Italian tactician’s plans, such as Jordan Amavi (30) and Ulisses Garcia (28).
Marseille have been one of Ligue 1’s most active clubs in the summer transfer window so far, with the recruitments of Lilian Brassier, Ismaël Koné, and Mason Greenwood. Les Phocéens are now looking to let go some players considered surplus to requirements by new manager Roberto de Zerbi. One of Marseill’s priorities is to do a full defence overhaul, as regular starters Pau Lopez, Chancel Mbemba, and Samuel Gigot have all been left outside of the first team training. Jordan Veretout has also been recently frozen out by Marseille, and may not be the last to have to look out for a new challenge this summer.
According to a report by RMC Sport, Amavi and Garcia are the last players to have been frozen out by the former Brighton manager. Loaned out to Stade Brestois last season, Amavi only played two games following a severe injury that kept him away almost the whole season. With his contract set to expire next summer, Marseille are looking to cash in on the former Aston Villa defender. Despite arriving last winter from Switzerland outfit Young Boys Berne, Garcia could also be forced to look for pastures new. The 28-year-old left back is currently training with the reserve team alongside Lopez, Mbemba, Gigot, Veretout, and Amavi.
