Borussia Dortmund captain Mats Hummels is looking to cause a shock in their UEFA Champions League final with Real Madrid.
The Bundesliga side have a date with Los Blancos at Wembley Stadium as part of a bold run to the final.
Despite their domestic struggles, Dortmund have impressed in the latter stages of the Champions League, led by the experienced Hummels.
The veteran defender produced two superb performances in the quarter finals against Atletico Madrid and was named player of the match in the two last four games against Paris Saint-Germain.
Hummels’ second leg winner saw Dortmund over the line at PSG and his form was reportedly pushing a case to be called up for Euro 2024.
However, despite his eye catching exploits, Hummels was overlooked by Julian Nagelsmann with Dortmund boss Edin Terzic claiming he is funnelling that frustration into his Champions League final preparation.
“Nagelsmann’s decision affected Mats and after the conversation he was disappointed”, as per quotes from Mundo Deportivo.
“He told me now he will do everything possible to achieve our great goal of winning the Champions League.
“He deserved to go to the Euros, but that’s not our decision. But, he is very professional, and will be a vital player for us in the final.”
Dortmund wrap up their domestic season at home to Darmstadt this weekend, with Champions League qualification already assured, ahead of a two week pre-final break.
