According to reports from Voetbal Primeur, Mats Seuntjens is in talks with FC Groningen about a return to the Eredivisie. The 32-year-old attacking midfielder currently plays in Spain at CD Castellón, where he’s coached by fellow Dutchman Dick Schreuder. Although he has a contract until the end of the season, a winter homecoming nears.
According to sources of the Dutch website, FC Groningen are aiming for the arrival of the midfielder to boost experience in the team. He has previously turned out for RKC Waalwijk and Fortuna Sittard, among others. Seuntjens himself would like to return to the Netherlands.
The Breda native has had an intriguing career to this point and played for various clubs at home and abroad, including AZ, NAC Breda, Gençlerbirligi and RKC Waalwijk.
At Castellón he has played 12 matches this season in the Spanish second division and his versatility and wealth of experience make him an attractive addition to the relatively young Groningen set-up, which currently sit 14th in the Eredivisie.
Although no final agreement has been reached, the talks seem to be at an advanced stage. If the deal is completed, Seuntjens can quickly join Dick Lukkien’s selection.
