As Rennes gear up for the start of the Ligue 1 season after a particularly active transfer window, which could see them rise to the heights of the Champions League this season, one player in Lovro Majer looks to be on his way out. Present on many clubs’ radars over the past few months, Wolfsburg have shown the most interest, sending three concrete offers to Rennes. So far, they have not been enough.
To counter this, the German club would like to include French defender Maxence Lacroix. According to L’Équipe, the former Sochaux man could be involved in the transaction, in order to facilitate the deal with Rennes, whose asking price for Majer exceeds €20 million.
In that regard, the 23-year-old defender’s transfer value is set at that €20 million mark, after playing 24 games in the Bundesliga last season. Playing over 80 league matches in Germany since his arrival in 2020, while also racking up 6 Champions League group stage appearances, notably against Lille, Lacroix’ experience at the highest level could help Rennes this season.
As Wolsburg prepare to lose Dutch centre back Micky van de Ven to Tottenham, it seems that former Monaco manager Niko Kovac wants to redesign their back line. They have already signed Lorient defender Mortiz Jenz, as well as Swiss defender Cédric Zesiger from BSC Young Boys.
There is no doubt that more offers will come in for Lovro Majer, but with Lacroix being offered in exchange, this could be an offer Rennes seriously consider, in order to bolster their chances of reaching Ligue 1’s podium this season.
