Kicker reports that the arrival of Maximilian Wöber at Borussia Mönchengladbach is not dependent on Nico Elvedi.
Elvedi’s reported move to Wolves is continuing to drag on and Gladbach have decided to go ahead with the signing of Wöber on loan from Leeds United. It is reported that the delay in the defender’s move to Wolves is due to the transfer fee with both clubs being far apart in their valuation.
The arrival of Wöber could potentially rule out Elvedi staying to run down his contract, which expires next summer. Wöber plays the exact same position as the Swiss international and if Elvedi is to lose his place in the Gladbach starting 11, it could affect his chances of earning a call-up to the European Championships next summer.
The sale of Elvedi will also mean Gladbach can chase other targets. The next player who could arrive is Fabian Rieder, but this move can only happen once money from a sale has arrived. While Kicker also suggests that Gladbach could also be considering buying another striker that could play back up to Tomas Cvancara, but that could restrict the development of Grant Leon-Ranos who joined from Bayern Munich in the summer as well.
