Juventus decided against going for Jadon Sancho on deadline day because they had discovered a new talent in Samuel Mbangula and will reward him with a new contract.

The Bianconeri had been pursuing Sancho for most of the summer, although their hopes of getting a cheaper deal were dashed when he put the feud with Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag behind him.

When the first offer was rejected, Juve decided not to relaunch with an improved bid, leaving him to instead join Chelsea for €23m plus up to €6m in add-ons.

Mbangula preferred to Sancho

Among the reasons for the change of tactic was the emergence of Mbangula, who has started both Serie A games this season after his surprise promotion from the Juventus Next Gen team.

The 20-year-old Belgian winger also scored a goal and contributed three assists in those two matches, making a big impression.

The arrival of Sancho would’ve limited his chances for playing time, so Juve decided to instead reward him with a new contract to June 2029 with a substantially boosted salary.
