McDiarmid Park in Perth is now Celtic’s 4IAR title target

Another five goals in a convincing win, despite being far from our best is a testament to this Celtic team’s character and ability. Here we go four in a row…

During the week we thumped Aberdeen 5-1 despite not getting out of second gear, and last night we witnessed a similar scenario in our 5-2 win over St Mirren in Paisley as we extended our lead at the top to 16 points after theRangers lost out 2-1 at home to Motherwell, their third consecutive home defeat having previously lost to St Mirren and Queen’s Park at Ibrox.

Celtic looked looked a little disjoined at the back

Just like Tuesday we were all over the place, and looked a little disjoined once again. Our defending also left much to be desired as we twice surrendered a lead after going in at the interval 2-1 ahead courtesy of a fine Jeffrey Schlupp strike and an Arne Engels spot kick.

We can consider ourselves very fortunate not have conceded on several more occasions, such was the slackness and untidiness of our defensive play, as well as our uncertainty at the back.

Our class prevailed in the end though as a Yang double either side of a fantastic finish by Daizen Maeda put more gloss on the scoreline, and to be truthful it didn’t half flatter us. St Mirren were also denied a penalty when rather remarkably Andrew Dallas on VAR decided not to intervene.

St Mirren denied a penalty

Maybe given after Alan Muir’s heroic effort to derail Celtic backfired at Ibrox and will Muir now out in the cold, the son of Hugh decided he’d rather play it safe an go with the on-field decision. However in the replays he would have seen, it certainly looked like a good shout for a penalty.

But at this stage of the campaign, it’s all about the result, and less of the performance. In the past two games we’ve scored five goals whilst being far from our best, and that’s a great testament to our character and ability.

That result leaves us requiring only four wins from our last nine games to clinch yet another title. Indeed a win in our next league fixture which is against theRangers would all but wrap it up. Then it’s Hearts at Paradise and St Johnstone in Perth. Win those three and we’re Champions again. Here we go four in a row.
