The summer transfer window wasn't short of action as far as the Tigers were concerned

Tim Walter's first transfer window in charge of Hull City proved to be an eventful one.

In total, 15 new signings were acquired by the German, who set about rebuilding the Tigers' squad into one he can very much call his own, although the loss of 20 players from last season, which included an abundance of star quality, saw themselves depart the MKM Stadium.

As is the case with any club in the EFL, supporters are always clamouring for more additions to be made, particularly after Acun Ilicali'scomments that Hull would make a 'statement signing' in the latter stages of the transfer window.

As exciting as some of the new additions are, such as Charlie Hughes, Liam Millar, Oscar Zambrano, Gustavo Puerta, Abu Kamara and Mohamed Belloumi among others, there is still an argument that City have left themselves short in certain areas of the pitch.

With that in mind, Football League World has selected two transfer regrets that Walter, Ilicali and the Tigers' recruitment team may be left to rue between now and the re-opening of business in January.

Failing to land Jonas Meffert

In a handful of additions, we have seen that Walter has utilised his know-how of the Bundesliga and Bundesliga.2, such as the acquisitions of Puerta from Bayer Leverkusen, the energetic Marvin Mehlem from SV Darmstadt, as well as Chris Bedia's loan move from Union Berlin.

However, it was clear that one man he was desperately keen to see follow in his footsteps from his former employers, Hamburg SV, to East Yorkshire was 29-year-old defensive midfielder, Jonas Meffert.

Meffert has been well-known to Walter since his days in charge of Holstein Kiel, and was keen on making the switch to the MKM, with reports suggesting that an initial bid of €500,000 had been made to prize him away from the Volksparkstadion.

Despite having the likes of Regan Slater, Zambrano, Finley Burns and Xavier Simons, who can operate as defensive-minded midfielders to a degree, the chance of acquiring Meffert, who is no stranger to Walter's ideologies, would've given the City boss a great sense of continuity and someone who more-than understands his ideologies, which could have fast-tracked cohesion among the squad on that front.

However, it was clear that 'Die Rothosen' wanted a figure closer to the €1m mark for the experienced figure who played 96 games under the City boss' management for Hamburg, with City unsuccessful in a second pursuit for his signature.

It remains to be seen whether this is a deal Ilicali and Walter will reconsider in January, but for now it will no doubt give a sense of great frustration.

Hull struggled for goals in the centre-forward department last season on a consistent basis, and despite the acquisitions of Mason Burstow and the aforementioned Bedia, they still look short on numbers in terms of natural strikers.

Bedia's record of 10 goals in 17 Swiss Super League games for FC Servette last season is a respectable tally which can even be built on if he gets off the mark quickly in City colours, whilst Burstow is hoping for a fresh start in his career, having failed to make a serious mark on the division with Sunderland last season.

There's no doubting the potential Burstow has if his fortunes change, but Hull are still light on numbers and goals in this department, and missing out on the likes of Deivid Washington and David Datro Fofana from Chelsea and Leicester City's Tom Cannon, after the former Everton man joined Stoke City on loan, despite initial reports that the Tigers had lodged a £5m bid for his services.

It was also surprising in some ways to see City part ways with Oscar Estupinan as a result, regardless of the fact a seven-figure profit has been made on his services, with the Colombian moving to Mexican side FC Juarez.

Estupinan had been likened to Robert Glatzel by Walter, giving City fans hope that the 27-year-old would build on an inconsistent period in Black and Amber which saw him loaned out twice, but he struggled in the German's system despite an opening-day penalty against Bristol City.

With the free agent market still holding a number of competent finishers, Hull should potentially look to explore options within the pool of players or risk leaving themselves short on natural options should Bedia or Burstow get injured between now and January.
