Just days after head coach Diego Cocca was fired from his post, Mexico have started their 2023 Gold Cup campaign off in style.
Just one minute into their Group B opener against Honduras, El Tri snatched a lead through a superb effort from the edge of the box by Monterrey’s Luis Romo.
There was elation in the stands, and on the Mexico bench as their side took a big first step towards reigniting their summer after a poor showing in the CONCACAF Nations League.
Romo continued his tremendous start to the tournament, heading home Mexico’s second of the night 20 minutes later to set NRG stadium alight.
