Mexican international midfielder Luis Chávez has told well-known Mexican YouTuber, Escorpión Dorado, that his Mexico team did not deserve to make the last 16 at the World Cup. Mexico failed to make the second round in Qatar despite having done so at every tournament since 1986 but the 26-year-old explained El Tri didn’t deserve to keep that streak going, saying:
“It’s a fair result. In the first two games we didn’t do what we normally do, we didn’t take risks. We still could have won against Poland but, in the end, we let those two games slip and the last one wasn’t enough… I can’t be happy because I wanted to stay a few more days and continue into the round of 16. We’d set a goal of making it to a fifth game and we’re not even going to play a fourth... The truth is that I was worried about [a lack of goals], we couldn’t leave the World Cup without scoring.”
Chávez and his club Pachuca, currently Apertura Liga MX champions, will return to action early in January.
