Former Huddersfield Town striker Jordan Rhodes was released at the end of his contract and has since linked back up withBlackpool ahead of the 2024/25 season.

It's a familiar stomping ground for the 34-year-old, who spent last season on loan at Bloomfield Road, and he has now joined permanently following the expiry of his contract at Huddersfield.

With the Terriers' relegation, it means Rhodes will face his former employers this season, and it could be a case of regret for the Yorkshire outfit if he manages to land a glove.

Huddersfield Town shouldn't worry too much about Jordan Rhodes haunting them

FLW's Huddersfield Town fan pundit Graeme Rayner recognises the possibility that the release of Rhodes could come back to bite them when his side faces the Seasiders next term, but does not think that it should have any wider impact on their season.

“So, Jordan Rhodes. It’s a tough one. I mean, it’s sad that he’s gone. He was a good servant to the club; didn’t really hit the heights in his second spell," Graeme told Football League World.

“There was no reason to keep him and we can’t stop who he goes to, but he might come back to haunt us at Blackpool.

“I’d like to think that, whatever Blackpool do, we’ll be up there anyway. And I wish him well, he was a cracking player for the club and his attitude was always right and a hell of a finisher - we just didn’t really give him the service we needed.

“So, I wish him the best of luck and I think Blackpool will probably finish about eighth or ninth, so I don’t think it’ll be a major problem for us.”

Jordan Rhodes could cause Huddersfield Town problems next season

Whilst Blackpool may not be expected to be troubling the very top of League One, as Huddersfield hope to be, evidence suggests that Rhodes could cause the Terriers some problems.

In his temporary switch last season, he notched 15 goals and three assists in just 29 league games.

That tally included strikes against the likes of Barnsley, Wigan Athletic and eventual play-off winners Oxford United, showing he can turn up against the big teams.

The Terriers will themselves be in that big-team bracket next season, and Rhodes will have the added incentive against his former club to show them what they've been missing by sending the forward out on loan and later releasing him.

Just five points separated second and third place for automatic promotion last season, with Blackpool themselves only three points off a play-off place.

That shows that things can get tight at the top of League One and, despite arriving from the Championship, the Terriers are not going to have an easy ride.

With Blackpool holding a say over six points in Huddersfield's season, it would be a painful watch for Terriers' fans to see Rhodes being decisive in where those points end up.

The move was probably the right one for Rhodes, but Huddersfield's relegation means the move could come back to bite them in a very direct way next season.
