No matter who their next director will be, Milan are expected to make a concerted effort to add more Italian players to their squad, and they’ll go after Pietro Comuzzo and Federico Chiesa in the summer, Calciomercato informs.
The Rossoneri have reached out to the agent of the Fiorentina defender, who has lost the starting job after he almost joined Napoli in January. He’s playing primarily in the Conference League because Pablo Mari is ineligible. It won’t be easy to convince the Viola. They turned down over €30M from the Partenopei in the winter. He’d replace either Fikayo Tomori or Malick Thiaw, who are available for the right price.
In addition to Comuzzo, Milan are testing the waters for Chiesa, who could head back to Serie A due to his lack of minutes at Liverpool. Exec Geoffrey Moncada likes him a lot and has a good rapport with his agent Fali Ramadani.
Moreover, the Rossoneri are continuing to pursue Samuele Ricci. He remains their main target to shore up the midfield.
It’s too early to identify targets since they’ll have to choose a new apical exec and a coach first, which will shape their plans. It’s never a wrong thing to build an Italian backbone, but the good ones are generally expensive. They’ll be hamstrung on the market without the Champions League. They are in an interesting spot because, even though it has massively underperformed this season, their squad is solid and doesn’t have too many glaring holes. Handpicking the right select reinforcements would be better than an overhaul.
