AC Milan’s Primavera side booked their place in the final eight of the cup with a penalty shootout win over Genoa at home this afternoon.
After the 0-0 draw with Lazio in the league on January 4 to begin the new year, Federico Guidi’s side were busy this afternoon at the PUMA House of Football in the round of 16 of the Coppa Italia Primavera against Genoa.
After a 1-1 draw in regulation time, the Rossoneri won 4-2 on penalties thanks to the perfection of their team from the spot and it secures a derby in the final eight of the competition.
The game did not exactly start on the right foot because Milan were a goal down after five minutes when Papastylianou fired in. Despite this, they immediately got back on track and in the 23rd minute they found the equaliser thanks to a penalty, scoring by Mattia Liberali and won by Max Ibrahimovic.
In the second half Milan attacked in search of victory but were unable to break the Ligurians down, meaning that the game went to a shootout with no extra-time in the competition. From eleven meters the Rossoneri did not miss with Bonomi, Hodzic, Liberali and Perin scoring.
Longoni made a decision save and with this victory – achieved under the eyes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Vincenzo Vergine and Jovan Kirovski – Milan advance to the quarter-finals of the competition where they will face Inter in early February.
