Milan held negotiations with Igli Tare this week to be their new director of sport, but reports continue to circulate their real target could be Atalanta’s Tony D’Amico.

The search for a more traditional figure in this role has been going on for weeks, with the club having been on the verge of putting pen to paper with Fabio Paratici only for it to all fall apart over the possibility of a looming trial into his financial dealings at Juventus.

They turned instead to free agent Tare, who is out of contract after leaving Lazio, holding a meeting in Rome with CEO Giorgio Furlani.

However, now MilanNews.it suggest that the real preferred figure for Furlani is Atalanta director of sport D’Amico, so Tare would be used as a stopgap.

There are some problems here, because D’Amico has a contract with La Dea until June 2027, so he would need to terminate that by mutual consent before signing for the Rossoneri.

Time is running out, as Milan are still without a director of sport and the transfer window is set to open soon, with many clubs already hard at work negotiating deals.

Over the last couple of years, the Rossoneri have shared out the duties of this role among several different people.
