Minnesota United star Emanuel Reynoso has been suspended by pay without Major League Soccer for failing to report for preseason training.
The Loons departed for Palm Springs, California, on Thursday for a three-match friendly tournament having previously spent time in Orlando, Florida.
However, Reynoso - MNUFC's star Designated Player with 19 goals and 22 assists in 79 appearances for the club - has been absent for the entire schedule with what has been called a 'personal matter'.
Head coach Adrian Heath has insisted throughout preseason that he aims to have the Argentine back in the group soon, including just prior to leaving for California.
"We're hoping," Heath responded when asked if Reynoso could return soon. "He's got one or two of his issues, and hopefully we can work through them and he'll be back whenever he can. …I think everybody is fully aware when people have personal problems. We've all been there."
However, when asked if he could provide a specific timeline for Reynoso's return, Heath said: "No, not at this moment."
On Friday, however, Minnesota United released a short statement revealing Reynoso has been suspended without pay by MLS.
"Emanuel Reynoso has been suspended without pay by Major League Soccer for failure to report to preseason training. We have no additional information beyond that at this time," read the statement.
Heath will be hoping for a resolution to the situation soon given his side kick off the 2023 MLS season away at FC Dallas on February 25.
