Weâre back with another edition of the MLS Power Rankings and the top-ten got a major shakeup thanks to some staggering results across the league on matchday 26. Letâs see who made the biggest jumps.
Donât look now, but here come the Sounders. Led by the streaking Jordan Morris, Seattle have climbed up into the top-seven in the West thanks to a fourth straight win in MLS.
Dean Smithâs boys just donât seem to go away. After a small blip in the last few weeks, the Crown bounced back with a superb victory away from home against Cincinnati to shake up the Supporters Shield race and close in on the top-four in the East. They did it all without Patrick Agyemang to boot.
Orlando are perhaps the biggest surprise in our top 10 this week. The Florida outfit followed up from the 5-0 thumping of D.C. United with a victory over New England to remain red-hot, and attacker Facundo Torres is at the center of it all. Three straight wins has seen Orlando move up into the top-seven of the Eastern Conference.
The Galaxy continue to slip in our rankings. One week they may be unplayable, but the next week they look easily penetrable. While they bounced back from a disappointing loss to rivals LAFC at the Rose Bowl with a victory over Minnesota, they took another two steps back with a loss in Dallas. Consistency will be key for Greg Vanneyâs side if they want to remain in contention for the Supporters Shield.
Fulltime. âÂ
The Sandy outfit have dropped in our rankings once again as they failed another test against a fellow Western Conference contender. A 3-0 loss in Portland showed yet again that when they come against the big boys in this league they just come up short.
To make matters worse, they will be missing their star striker for the next few games due to suspension.
Portland are humming along quite nicely, and nobody seems to have noticed. After winning four of their last five games in MLS, Phil Nevilleâs side put on a stunning display to dominate the aforementioned Real Salt Lake side who had been in the running for the Supporters Shield.
Inter Miami were one of the winners of the weekend based on the simple fact that they didnât even a play a game. As the teams around them in the rankings dropped like flies, Miami sat at home with their feet up and enjoyed the chaos.
Cincinnati appeared to be he most consistent team through the opening few months of the MLS campaign, but holes have emerged in recent weeks. Despite making a major statement with a 6-1 win over Inter Miami two weeks ago, they returned to action this past weekend with a disappointing home loss to a Charlotte side that was missing their main center-forward.
Final. âÂ
To be frank, LAFC only drop one place after being thumped on home soil this weekend because all of the other teams in the top-five face-planted this weekend as well.
Steve Cherundoloâs men were perhaps found out on Saturday, but they should take it as a lesson before heading into the final few months of the campaign.
The Crew are well and truly back baby. As if there was any doubt that they are still the best team in MLS, Wilfried Nancyâs side stormed into BMO Stadium and walloped LAFC by a staggering score of 5-1. Now thatâs how you make a statement.
