MN: Milan trio snubbed in Gran Galà del Calcio awards – no player in best XI | OneFootball

The 2024 ‘Gran Galà del Calcio AIC’ awards will take place at the Superstudio Maxi in Milano tonight, but no AC Milan players will be crowned.

As MilanNews reports, host will be Sky journalist Federica Masolin, accompanied on stage by co-host Fabio Caressa. Several awards will be presented: Coach of the Year, Referee of the Year, Club of the Year, Best Goal of the 2023-24 men’s and women’s season, as well as of course the Player of the Year.

Despite some Milan players being nominated for the best XI (namely Mike Maignan, Theo Hernandez and Rafael Leao), none of them will feature. The Rossoneri finished last season in second place, while it must also be noted that Christian Pulisic was snubbed from the nominees entirely.

The only representative from Milan to attend will be the president Paolo Scaroni as he was invited by Enel, sponsor of the 2024 edition.

The shortlist of nominees is as follows:

Goalkeepers: Di Gregorio, Maignan, Sommer. Defenders: Bastoni, Bellanova, Bremer, Buongiorno, Calafiori, Dimarco, Dumfries, Theo Hernández. Midfielders: Barella, Çalhanoğlu, Dybala, Koopmeiners, Mkhitaryan, Rabiot. Forwards: Gudmundsson, Lautaro Martínez, Leão, Lookman, Thuram, Zirkzee.

It was announced yesterday meanwhile that Maignan and Pulisic were included among the nominees for FIFA’s ‘The Best Football Awards 2024’.
