According to De Telegraaf, Jordan Henderson (34) regrets his actions before Ajax’s match in the UEFA Europa League against Galatasaray as he pushed for a move away from the club before the close of the January transfer window. The former Liverpool captain had agreed personal terms on a potential move to Monaco.

Angling for a move to the Ligue 1 club, before the match against the Turkish Super League club, the 34-year-old threatened never to play for the Eredivisie side again if he wasn’t allowed to move to Les Monégasques. During the altercation, Henderson was stripped of his captaincy and could be seen playing the match without the armband.

A promise to stay

Following his actions, the England international has apologised to the club and promised to stay in Amsterdam until at least the summer transfer window, the Dutch publication understands. Despite Monaco being confident of a deal to sign the Englishman, this plot twist appears to have put any move to the Côte d’Azur in doubt.
