Reims may have to look elsewhere now in their efforts to replace the outgoing Marshall Munetsi who is set to join Premier League side Wolverhampton Wanderers before the end of the transfer window this evening. L’Équipe report that Montpellier have firmly refused Stade de Reims’ €3.5m offer for midfielder Joris Chotard (23). Whilst the Champagne club have met the valuation of the player, MHSC chairman Laurent Nicollin has outright refused to make a deal happen on the final day of the transfer window. The midfielder who represented France at the Paris Olympics over the summer looked poised to leave the south of France before the start of this season as it had become increasingly clear by the end of the 2023/24 campaign that Chotard was ready to take the next step in his career.
The Frenchman ultimately remained at MHSC, somewhat against his will. A promise was made, however, that if a €6m bid arrived in January, then he would be allowed to leave. Reims have now matched that valuation. Chotard has himself agreed to move to Reims. It now remains to be seen whether Laurent Nicollin will honour his promise.GFFN | George Boxall
