In the last couple days of the summer transfer window, two Serie A clubs have been eyeing up a very high-profile transfer.

Both Monza and Como had been linked with a move for Perisic as the window drew to a close.

The 35-year-old already has extensive experience in Serie A.

Perisic joined Inter from Wolfsburg in the summer of 2015. This followed spells with the likes of Club Brugge and Wolfsburg.

And Perisic certainly built a positive reputation for himself during his time at Inter.

The Croat spent a total of seven seasons as a Nerazzurri player. The 2019-20 campaign, however, saw him go out on loan to Bayern Munich, where he won the European Treble.

But in his last two seasons at Inter, Perisic enjoyed fine form.

The Croatian international helped Inter to the Serie A title in the 2020-21 campaign. And in the 2021-22 season, his last at the club, Perisic found his most outstanding individual form playing at wingback.

Inter responded to Perisic’s exceptional 2021-22 season by offering the winger a new contract.

However, the Croat decided to instead join Tottenham Hotspur on a free transfer in the summer of 2022.

Perisic was a regular in the Spurs lineup during the 2022-23 season.

However, a serious knee injury in 2023 seriously disrupted Perisic’s season.

The Croat then eventually joined Hajduk Split in his native Croatia.

However, Perisic eventually terminated his contract with Split. He did so a couple of days ago.

Both Monza and Como eyed up a surprise free transfer deal to bring Perisic back to the Italian top flight.

However, neither of the two Lombard clubs got the deal over the line before the transfer deadline passed.

According to the Gazzetta, however, Monza are still aiming to sign Perisic.

The Brianzoli want to take advantage of the fact that the 35-year-old is a free agent.
