Spain captain Alvaro Morata reveals Giorgio Chiellini told him to ‘lift the cup’ before the Euro Final against England and smiles when asked whether he’ll join Milan: ‘I don’t know, let’s see…’

Morata’s Spain became European champions for the fourth time in history on Sunday, beating England 2-1 in a Final in Berlin.

The Spanish striker spoke to Sky Sport Italia after the game, replying to questions from reporters and his ex-Juventus teammate Chiellini, one of the pundits for the Italian broadcasters.

“Before the game, Chiellini told me to go and lift the cup,” Morata said.

“I wanted to ask you [Chiellini] how much it [the trophy] weighs, but out of superstition, I didn’t,” he continued.

“I am happy you brought the cup. You know you’ve always been an example as a footballer and especially as a man. You know I am grateful for the way you’ve always treated me. You are a person I admire.”

Chiellini was glad his former teammate accomplished the mission.

“You are a great person and a great striker, there couldn’t be a better person to receive this cup,” said the former defender.

“You know, in the final, I supported you [Italy] because you are my friends, and my family is Italian. I know you supported me this time and hope to see you soon,” Morata revealed.

At that point, Chiellini added that after the EURO 2020 semi-final won by the Azzurri against Morata’s Spain, the striker told him that he hoped Italy would win the trophy.

“I had to be like a bricklayer in these Euros,” said the Spain international who lifted the trophy as La Roja’s captain.

“I had to work hard, and I am proud of what I’ve achieved in my career with Spain. I think I deserve to lift this cup.

“We are a solid group. It felt like the young players were on a school trip. I had to raise my voice sometimes, but these lads are too nice and it made me laugh sometimes, the atmosphere was terrific.”

The experienced centre-forward is expected to return to Italy very soon as multiple sources claim he’ll undergo his medical with Milan this week. When asked if he’d move to the Stadio Meazza he replied smiling: “I don’t know. Let’s see. I want to enjoy this and then we’ll see.”

The Sky Italia reporter noted the smile on his face, but Morata refused to add more: “I’m happy today and I am happy to see all of you,” he concluded.
