INEOS’ extreme cost-cutting measures are likely to carry over to the Manchester United squad when the window opens next month.
Getting rid of deadwood is one factor of business that the Red Devils had always struggled with. However, the summer window, which marked the first of INEOS’ tenure, saw the club raise £81.7 million through sales, with the likes of Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Scott McTominay and Donny van de Beek all departing Old Trafford for pastures new.
Now, though, there’s still work to be done. Reports over the last week have already suggested that United are making plans to cut ties with Marcus Rashford – a decision that’s divided the fanbase significantly, given the time he’s spent at his boyhood club.
One player who’s frequently been linked with a move away – despite only joining in 2022 – is Antony, and now that Ruben Amorim is again utilising the Brazilian’s counterparts over him, it may well be time for the Reds to cut their losses.

It became increasingly clear during Antony’s maiden season that he was worth nowhere near the ludicrous £86 million fee United forked out for him. Then, when transfer chiefs grew resigned that it just wasn’t working out, they had to accept that they’d never recuperate an amount close to his price tag if they were to offload him.
The 24-year-old has featured sporadically since Amorim took the reins from Erik ten Hag, making just one 11-minute Premier League cameo in the first four matches of the new head coach’s tenure. Antony has made two Europa League appearances in that time, however, including once as a starter for Amorim’s first European win against Bodø/Glimt last month.
It’s seemingly too little, too late for him to work his way into the boss’ plans, though. The Mirror claims that moves are now ‘already underway’ for United to sell the £200,000-a-week outcast, who’s been labelled ‘one of the most expensive mistakes in the history of English football’.
