Yunus Musah spoke to the media after what was a big win for AC Milan against Real Madrid. Doing well in a slightly different role, the American was understandably pleased.

Musah was the big surprise of the starting XI, or at least the biggest change, as Paulo Fonseca deployed him as a right-winger on paper. Quite clearly, this was a way to deal with Vinicius Jr on the left and the move paid off.

The American did well from start to finish and as you can imagine, he was very happy after the referee blew his whistle for full-time. Speaking to Sky Italia after the game, as transcribed by MilanNews, the midfielder discussed the game and his ideal position.

On the contained emotion, because of Valencia…

“We must not forget that we are very lucky to have played, to be healthy and to have played a good game. Many people have lost their lives. They are all united and love each other so much, I am sure that they will get through this situation.”

On tonight’s start and his position on the pitch…

“I was surprised when the coach told me I was playing, I didn’t expect it. It was a very tough match. Credit to Vinicius who is an exceptional player and we had to double on him with a five-man defence, we were also very careful about the depth.”

On his favourite position…

“We played very well against Napoli, we weren’t worried about the future and we knew we were dangerous. My ideal position is box-to-box, number 8. But I can also play as the wing-back in a five-man backline.”

Milan will be up against Cagliari next and it’s very possible that Musah could play from start, though that game doesn’t exactly require additional defensive support. Since the game is on Saturday already, a lot will come down to the physical status.
