Yunus Musah has admitted that the Champions League motivated his desire to join AC Milan, while he also spoke about the impact of the new coach.

It has been a strange few days for Milan after the initial high under Sergio Conceicao of the Supercoppa Italiana win out in Saudi Arabia, as they have since won one of three league games.

A draw with Cagliari in his San Siro debut was followed up by a comeback win over Como and most recently a damaging defeat to top four rivals Juventus away from home, which left Conceicao fuming at a lack of desire.

Now, the Portuguese coach will take charge of his first Champions League game with his new club and he is expected to field Musah on the right side. Christian Pulisic and Samuel Chukwueze are injured, Noah Okafor doesn’t seem to be part of the plans and Alex Jimenez isn’t in the European squad.

Musah spoke alongside the head coach at a pre-match press conference on the eve of the game against Girona, and his comments were relayed by MilanNews.

What Girona do you expect tomorrow?

“They have good players, collectively they play well. We will have to be very solid defensively.”

What has Conceiçao brought for you?

“We always try to give our best, we are training hard to be intense for 90 minutes. Since the new staff arrived, we have done well in Saudi Arabia and this gives us a lot of motivation and a lot of confidence to be able to do great things.”

What does it mean to play in the Champions League?

“We are lucky to be able to play this competition. My American friends watch us, it is the most beautiful club competition. It is nice to be able to play it. When I was at Valencia, I wanted to play in the Champions League and that’s why I came to Milan.”
