According to a report from Foot Mercato, FC Nantes are closing in on Young Boys striker and DR Congo international Meschak Elia (27). Discussions are reportedly ongoing between the two clubs over a loan move which may or may not have an obligation to buy set at €2.5m. The player’s profile has been approved by manager Antoine Kombouaré and owner Waldermar Kita, but head of recruitment Baptiste Drouet is reportedly less keen on the move. L’Équipe report meanwhile that all parties are in agreement over the move, but that there is a sticking point over the potential obligation to buy the player at the end of the loan. Les Canaris are reportedly not happy with the compulsory option to purchase the player, and want to remove the clause. Elia has played for Young Boys since 2020, making 144 appearances and scoring 32 goals for the Swiss Super League outfit. The forward has represented DR Congo 50 times, scoring on 11 occasions for the Leopards.GFFN | George Boxall
